Standards and technical characteristics requested for emergency lighting in Italy
COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES (> 400mq)
10 lux on the escape routes, 5 lux on any other environment, provides an
autonomy of 20 minutes. The emergency exits and the routes to reach them must be highlighted by luminous signs kept on during the activity.
DM 07/27/2010.
HOTELS and HOSPITALITY
Safety power supply with short interruption (<0.5 sec), recharge time 12h, autonomy 1h, illuminance not less than 5 lux.
DM 09/04/1994. Standard CEI 64-55
SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITIES
Security lighting with 12h recharge time; autonomy 30 ‘; illuminance not less than 5 lux.
DM 26/08/1992. DM 08/03/1985. Standard CEI 64-52. UNI 10840.
MUSEUMS, EXHIBITIONS, LIBRARIES
Safety power supply with short interruption (<0.5 sec), recharge time 12h, autonomy 1h, illumination not less than 2 lux in all environments with presence of public and 5 lux on exits and stairs.
Standard CEI 64-15.
FIRE PREVENTION AND EVACUATION
Safety lighting must ensure reliable signaling of escape routes, which for duration and level of illumination allows adequate evacuation.
DM 08/03/1985.
SPORTS FACILITIES, CAMPSITES, BATHING LOCATIONS
Safety power supply with short interruption (<0.5 sec), recharge time 12h, autonomy 1h, illuminance not less than 5 lux. 10% of the average level of illumination must be maintained on the playing field and in the initial sections of
the exit routes.
DM 18/03/1996. UNI 9316-APRIL 1989.
THEATERS, CINEMAS, CONCERT AND DANCE ROOMS, NIGHT MARKETS
Emergency lighting within a short time (<0.5 sec) with indication of escape routes; lighting of 2 lux in all environments with presence of the public and 5 lux on exits and stairs; full charge in 12 h; autonomy of at least 1 h.
DM 19/08/1996. Standard CEI 64/8. Standard CEI 64/50. Circular No. 16/1951. Royal Decree 07/11/1942 N. 1564. Circular N. 79 of 27/08/1971.
WORKPLACES (>100 workers)
Emergency lighting with the presence of over 100 workers; in case of danger due to the immediate abandonment of machines and appliances and when dangerous substances are processed. Safety lighting of sufficient intensity in emergency exits requiring artificial lighting and where workers are particularly exposed to risk. Safety power supply with short interruption (<0.5 sec), recharge time 12h, autonomy 2h (1h with autonomous devices), illumination not less than 5 lux at 1mt of height along the exit routes.
Presidential Decree 27/04/1955 N.547. DL 19/09/1994 N. 626. Legislative Decree 81/08. Legislative Decree 106/09. DM 22/02/2006. UNI EN 1838. DM 10/03/1998. DPR 20/03/1956 N.320
CIVIL AND RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS
Reliable safety lighting and signaling of escape routes in buildings with a height
greater than 32 m. Safety lighting with an autonomy of at least 1h is appropriate.
Emergency lighting with immediate intervention, with illumination of minimum 5 lux for displacement operations.
DM 16/05/1987, N. 246. Standard CEI 64-50. DM 01/02/1986.
ROOMS FOR MEDICAL USE (> 25 beds), HOSPITALS, CARE HOMES
Safety power supply with short interruption (e.g. operating lights), medium or long, charging time 12h, autonomy 2h, 1h in the presence of a generator. Illuminance does not infer to 5 lux along the escape routes. Autonomy and immediate availability of emergency power supply for essential services, as well as a minimum of lighting in other rooms.
Standard CEI 64-8 section 710. DM 18/09/2020. DM 08/03/1985, DM 05/08/1977. DDF 07/29/1939.
